Abstract

This paper examines the global positioning, socio-economic impact and management of road traffic accidents in Nigeria. Nigeria has a serious road accident problem and more road safety measures need to be introduced for its effective management. In order to identify priorities for actions it is important that there is a clear understanding
of the road accident problem and the likely effectiveness of road safety improvements. It is therefore, a priority for Nigeria to have an appropriate accident information system and that they carry out research and evaluation studies of remedial measures. Another basic requirement is a well trained road safety teams which are capable of
co-ordinating and integrating a wide range of programmes for road sanity at lowest cost.
